How we value a model railway collection
As the value differs between each model, JG Models does not use a flat rate per locomotive. Every collection is priced individually from recent auction sold prices and from our vast experience selling model railway at auction.
Condition, boxing, gauge and whether the locomotives run all affect the offer. That is why we ask for photos or a list where possible, and why we are happy to view the collection in person before a final figure is agreed.

Collection is free across the UK. We take everything in one visit where we can.
Payment is made by instant bank transfer. We will not leave until you are satisfied the money has been received.

FAQs
Do you buy N gauge as well as OO?
Yes - JG Models purchases model railway of all gauges. From N gauge to G scale railway and everything in between.
A lot of traders focus only on OO because it is the most common. We buy N gauge collections as well, including Graham Farish, Dapol. Boxed or unboxed, we will look at the collection as a whole.
If your layout or collection is mixed gauge, we would be interested in everything. We do not only take the OO and leave the N gauge behind.
Do you buy unboxed locomotives and rolling stock?
Yes. Although original boxes usually add value, they are not a requirement. Unboxed locomotives and rolling stock are a normal part of most collections we buy. What matters more is the model itself, the condition, and whether locomotives run. A boxed locomotive in poor condition is not automatically worth more than a clean unboxed one that runs well.
If some of the collection is boxed and some is not, send photos of both. We value the items, not just the packaging.
Do you buy layouts and track?
Track and accessories can be included with a collection of locomotives and rolling stock. We do not usually purchase layouts on their own.
Do you collect from my home?
JG Models offer a free, UK wide collection service. Once a price is agreed, we arrange a date and take the collection in one visit where we can. We are based in Bourne, Lincolnshire, but we collect nationwide. For longer distances we may tie the visit in with other collections in the area, which we will be upfront about when we arrange the date.
If you would rather not have a collection visit, you can ship the items to us instead. We will provide a fully paid tracked shipping label. Once the items have arrived and been checked, payment is made by instant bank transfer.
Do you use fixed rates per locomotive?
No. We do not pay a set price per loco or per wagon.
A fixed rate does not work because values vary too much. A common Hornby tank engine and a sought after named steam locomotive are not worth the same amount. Gauge, brand, class, livery, whether it is boxed, whether it runs, and whether it is DCC or sound all change the price.
That is why we value collections item by item using recent auction sold prices, rather than offering £15 per locomotive across the board. It takes longer, but it is the only way to make an offer that is fair on the better items and realistic on the common ones.
